Downtown Orlando hides a genuine speakeasy scene: password entries, antique elevators, bartenders who treat a cocktail like a commission. Most visitors never find it. The name isn't a joke. The rooftop bar above Downtown Orlando really does hide behind the pretense of a cobbler's shop. Entry requires a password, obtained by calling a phone number that changes regularly (check their social channels for the current ritual). Inside: vintage decor, low amber light, and a short list of Prohibition-style cocktails including their signature Cobbler. It's small, it fills up, and that's the point.

The Courtesy

A little easier to get into and every bit as serious about its drinks, The Courtesy channels Prohibition-era ambiance without the theater of a hidden door. Ask for the Bartender's Choice: tell them a spirit and a mood, and they build something custom. They also run cocktail classes and tasting events if you want to go home with more than a bar tab.

Mathers Social Gathering

Hidden on the third floor of one of Orlando's oldest buildings, Mathers is reached through an unmarked door and a creaking antique elevator, and opens into a sprawling Victorian lounge of leather sofas and exposed brick. The signature Smokeshow arrives under a dome of aromatic smoke. Come Thursday for live jazz, or dress up for their Gatsby-themed Saturdays. Regulars swear by the membership program.

Beyond the Passwords: Underground Bars & Lounges

• The Treehouse. A nature-drenched hideaway where the cocktail list leans botanical: think garden herbs, house infusions, and drinks that look like terrariums.
• Bauhaus. Contemporary-art energy and some of the most inventive mixology in the city; the menu changes like a gallery rotation.
• The Guesthouse. A members-only lounge with a rare-spirits collection for the whiskey obsessive in your group.

How to Do the Night Right

A few field notes from clients who do this circuit often. Most of these rooms enforce a smart casual dress code (no theme-park attire). Check each venue's social media the week you visit; passwords, hours, and live-music nights change. Respect the privacy culture: photography is often discouraged, which is half the charm.
